Nicasio Fernandez’s surreal oil paintings unravel everyday life into an absurd territory resulting in an image that is strange yet familiar. A cast of hyper expressive otherworldly figures, delicately grotesque with over-exaggerated limbs and unnatural hues of flesh inhabit the worlds he creates.

Despite the clear break from reality, emotionally and narrative-wise Fernandez’ paintings seem relatable, and his commentaries on banal daily situations are humorously twisted surreal visions of an alternate reality.

Fernandez’ love of cartoons from young age continues to influence his work, and the ironic and satirical humor found in In and About perfectly exemplifies the artist's approach to his subject matter. “The world is so intense already, might as well try to relieve some of that tension along the way.”
