Larissa De Jesús Negrón (b. 1994, Guynabo, Puerto Rico) is a multidisciplinary artist, based in New York who yearns for introspection and finds self-evaluation through her intimate and often otherworldly spaces and portraits. Her stylistically varied and neo-surreal imagery is linked to the artist’s curiosity about the subconscious mind. De Jesús Negrón has a profound interest in healing and addressing her childhood and adult trauma through her work. These everyday moments of despair, fear, and hope are brought to the eyes of the viewer as a cathartic way to connect through shared experiences. De Jesús Negrón has been exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions internationally, recent galleries include: Dinner Gallery (New York, NY); Harkawik (New York, NY), Bim Bam Gallery, (Paris), Lorin Gallery, (Los Angeles, CA), Guts Gallery (London), Nicodim Gallery (Bucharest) and many more.

I want what I already have is a fantastic example of the artist’s emotive, dreamy style. Downturned eyes with sparkling tears welling evoke Margaret Keane, going one step further by filling her charged compositions with evocative narrative. Exploring existential themes such as women’s roles in society, vitality, fear, and the unknown, the gratitude and persistence is tangible even in contrast with the portrait’s expression. I want what I already have is a self-portrait peppered with ephemeral, delicate natural beauties like sparkling dew in the grass and white butterflies. Tears well up and fall into the puddle, distorting the artist’s doe-eyed reflection, reminding her to express gratitude for what exists around her, rather than continuing to cry over what she never had.
