Brian Calvin has made numerous drawings and paintings of Ruth Bader Ginsburg over the past few years, and felt compelled to create this print for When We All Vote in order to honor the late Supreme Court Justice. This work honors her legacy in a particularly meaningful way, as it benefits and encourages voter participation.

"A few years ago, I made a quick drawing of RBG in a sketchbook. I don’t make many drawings of actual people but the sketch resonated with me. I played around with it, producing a handful of drawings and a painting. I had already been working with ART FOR CHANGE on a print to benefit When We All Vote when news broke that Justice Ginsburg had passed. I immediately reached out to see whether we could make a last minute change and ART FOR CHANGE made it happen. Ruth Bader Ginsburg dedicated her life’s work to expanding rights with the goal of “equal justice for all”. Her fighting spirit must be carried on by others now, and I’m proud for this edition to benefit When We All Vote. Born in Visalia, California in 1969, Brian Calvin's figurative, non-narrative pictorial style has become synonymous with the relaxed, sun-drenched lifestyle of his home state. His close-up treatment of highly-stylized light-soaked portraits of women feature luminous colors laid flat that endow his large-scale paintings with a strange temporality.

Calvin received his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and now lives and works in Ojai, CA. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Anton Kern Gallery in New York, Almine Rech Gallery in Paris, and Corvi-Mora in London, among others. His work can be found in numerous public collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Portland Art Museum, and the Aïshti Foundation.
